Fool's Features: Edition #2 - Star Wars
Welcome to Fool’s Features, in this edition we’re focusing on a galaxy far, far away… but not the one you’re familiar with. We’ll be looking at custom reimaginings of the beloved Star Wars universe.
Jango Fett, R2-D2, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Senator Padmé Amidala
@jdm_bricks begins our dive into custom Star Wars universes with an entry in his legendary series: “Star Wars Reimagined”. This post is his take on some of the protagonists from Episode II: The Attack of the Clones. Anakin is striking in dark red and tan, and Obi-Wan fittingly looks more humble and wise in his dark brown robes. Padmé also looks incredible here, with a clear Victorian influence that encapsulates the vibe of JDM’s universe perfectly.
R2-D2, C3P0, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca
@flyin_brickz presents a super fun recreation of the core cast from Episode IV: A New Hope. Luke Skywalker is incredibly dashing with his yellow utility belt and azure coat, and the lightsaber ignition paired with his position in the shot reminds me of the iconic original Star Wars posters.
Sith Executioner and Sith Shadow Trooper
@minifigure builds gives us his take on some members of an original “Sith Imperium”. The Shadow Trooper’s gun build is fantastic, using a combination of tread elements to create a blast-shield/ammunition-belt. This particular helmet paired with the armor from Savage Opress helps give this soldier a rough and militant appearance. Another standout is the executioner’s helmet build, which utilizes a firefighter’s mask and a Nexo Knights visor to frame the head, topping it off with Darth Maul’s horns. The head used on the figure has hints of blue and light nougat, but they’re hidden entirely by the helmet build.
Private Ryan Faselmans, Nina Fortuna, Tax Collector Trooper, Klaud, Robonino, The Alien, Warlord Jun Smyth, Piganwhistle, Captain Kirk Ru’sel, Grock
@10.eyed.man.customs gives his personal twist on a popular LEGO Star Wars prompt called “Mandon’t”, started by LEGO enthusiasts and content creators @fjj_customs and @rhubarb_motel. Entries to this challenge seek to create their own variant of the characters from The Mandalorian, and with the release of the new Mandalorian and Grogu movie, people have been revisiting their Mandon’t worlds. 10-eyes universe stars The Alien and his extraterrestrial companion Klaud (who is absolutely adorable) as well as his numerous foes and friends. Each and every character pictured has so much personality and they all come together to form a cohesive vibe. My personal favorites are Piganwhistle and Robonino, their color schemes and silly nature truly shine. The notion of a Tax Collector Trooper is hilarious and unfortunately brings me back to reality, but I love his design nonetheless.
Aya the Merc, Lady Shifa the Assassin, Doctor Abon, Doctor Juda
@tim_goddard928 is a member of a collaborative project known as Teal Squadron, a group responsible for some of the coolest MOC’s I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing. This group is based on a game session held by the members of the group, and just by their designs I can safely say I’d love to play with these guys some time. They all have so much personality and flare, and I can tell there was heart and thought put into each character. The first thing that stuck out to me was the attachment of a Clone Trooper rangefinder on a LEGO Friends hairpiece, something I couldn’t believe I’d never thought of or seen more of as it looks incredible! Both Doctor Abon and Juda, respectively, look fantastic and suitably intelligent, ready to dole out medicine or wreak technological havoc.
@stuntmanbrick represents the retro crowd here with a pre-1999 retelling of The Mandalorian. Building Baby Yoda using forestman hats is genius, and The Mandalorian himself looks as iconic as ever, even in this premodern style. Even his weapons have been retro-fied, with his rifle cleverly using a fork piece at the end.
Top: Talrek and Ash Angel, Warlord Lestru Crown
Bottom: Shif Grafano, Jec Julien and Ruba, Prince Khrussk
Here we have another Mandon’t post, this time by @snipersquirrel1. These characters are all really fun parallels to the ones in the recent film, and it truly feels like an alternate Star Wars world. The replacement for Embo is super cool looking and his pet raven-creature and wide circular hat instantly make him a recognizable variant of the bounty hunter. Even the warlord, based on a character I’d forgotten from the movie, I instantly recognized and remembered thanks to the perfect head choice.
Kylo Ren, General Hux, Kylo Ren, Supreme Leader Snoke, Baylan Skoll
@brickfigs1 has been presenting his own retelling of a post-Star Wars: Episode VI story. He combines elements of the Disney and Legends stories as well as adding his own flare, and part two of his series stars some dark side characters. Baylan Skoll looks great in a dark green cape and hood, and Reinhardt’s head from LEGO Overwatch gives the character his gruff and battled appearance. Snoke uses armor from LEGO Atlantis and a head from one of Thanos’s alien henchmen. Great parts usage all around!
@henry_the_brickman_mocs wraps up today’s edition with a brilliant Jedi and Sith duo. The Vulture helmet on the Jedi reminds me of Ezra Bridger and his painted Scout Trooper helmet. The Sith looks particularly menacing, built with an orc head from The Lord of the Rings and a glowing Ninjago snake helm. Both figures use a shade of brown as well, helping to ground the designs and keep them from being monotonous as many Jedi and Sith creations can end up being.
